It is impossible not to imagine some sort of future for yourself. I know that nothing I concoct in my mind will come to fruition, life doesn't work that way. Or does it? How far does manifestation go? If I think long, hard, and enough about my future can I somehow create it into a palpable reality? I often tell myself that life doesn't care about my plans; it throws you in whatever direction it wants you to go in. However, I have always dreamt of traveling the world and here I am now, about to be embarking on the most epic adventure of anyone's life with my best friend. Is that coincidence or did my hopefulness and optimism somehow push the planes of reality to form my desires? What is the best way to live your life, hoping for all the things you want or opening your soul to whatever the world brings you? Maybe the trick is finding the balance between creating your own destiny and welcoming your reality with open arms...

  1. heidegger said that there are two types of metaphysical perception of the world: that of the realist, who sees the world as acting upon her/him and every decision she/he makes as merely a reaction to that immutable reality-- and the idealist, who sees her/himself as acting upon the world and the events which transpire thereafter as ripples of the net effect of singular causality, every decision made putting you on one of a multitude of "fate-paths" forking perpetually onward through your existence...

heidegger also said that these two opposing perceptions of reality were inadequate in encapsulating the beautiful and multicolored precious gem totality of what it is to truly exist-- that instead, we all were "dasein", connected to the world in such a way that cannot be untangled.

I like the idea of "amor fati", or "love of fate." You can't choose your fate, but you can rise to fulfill it-- the impossible marriage of free will and predestination.

I think the highest human felicity that can be experienced (in my experience) is trying just to acknowledge the beauty of every passing moment, regardless of content, a benevolent amor fati. Everything shapes you, everything gives you an opportunity to act, everything is eventual and technicolored and once gone is utterly sempiternal. How could it ever be bad? Stepping back and acknowledging the beautiful possibilities which have led you to a beautiful present is the best, mack. I hope you continue to do so, no matter where your journey brings you, through long days and pleasant nights and places exotic and lush. take care!
